Summer is over and the 4th quarter is upon us. It's time to make sure that I don't give up any gains I have made and to accelerate my activity to add more to my bottom line before the year ends.

My money is distributed 30% on each of the position with the remaining 10% for intra-day/short term activities. FAS and OIH are both Option CALL contracts positions that I have built over time (2/3 months) and STEC is 2 times leveraged using margin.

I opened up a new LONG position trade by buying AUG 95 call options for OIH yesterday at an average price of $3.80. The trade is based on the idea that DUG (inverse ETF) is to resume downtrend from here after touching a major resistance line (see 2 year char) and reversal pivot point at 38% retracement area.

Stop point is if OIH breaches bellow $85 area and next buy point is if OIH move above $100.

I've gone bamboo with this market. I have very stringent rules that I follow on entry, exit and trade management. The last few weeks had me throw everything that I have been doing and started to react to price fluctuations.

My average holding period the last few weeks have been 3 to 4 days. Probably my natural instinct kicked in to keep me alive in this market.

Going into this week, I was holding AAPL as my main long position which sucked dirt this morning so I was force to get out pre-market at average price $120. Even my other long positions JPM and BAC kissed the pavement when selling kicked in afternoon but I kept my positions. My only positive positions are my put option contracts on CF AGU POT.

I'm in survival mode at this point and I'm operating at 10% of my buying power keeping the rest at cash. No need to try being a hero.

Just like that, I'm back to where I started. Recovered my losses on the Gustav bet plus made some more. I closed all my PUT option positions yesterday. A rally in the energy related names might be coming but I'm not going to bet on it again. Lesson learned.

With the bloodbath I took yesterday for my energy positions, I closed all the long and call options that I was holding and started to load up on the PUT options on 5 ags stocks and 5 oil stocks which allowed me to recover about 1/2 of my losses for my GUSTAV bet.

From here, retail looks good and some construction looks promising.

First, I hope that me good friend Ragin Cajun is boarded up well in his home state of Louisiana before Gustav touches down in their area. Better if he move to safer ground.

Every now and then comes a moment when either we decide to stand aside or put our money where conviction is. This is one of those moments when I just have to put my money where my mouth is. I'm currently loaded with stocks and the current month call options on several hurricane stocks in preparation for the coming of Gustav to the gulf area.

This is a very calculated move where if I'm right, it will add plenty to my gains this year and if not, well, I will give up about 1/4 of my gains this year.

I loaded up on some oil well services stocks yesterday on that steep pullback. I'm rolling out my red welcoming carpet for Gustav just like the well know filipino hospitality. Yes, we will let you in to our homes and let you eat our food even if we starve the next day.

I just hope that Gustav lives up to the expectation. And if not, i'll be giving up most of my gains on these positions and maybe some more.

Who names a hurricane Gustav anyway. They should give these hurricanes names like Balls of fire, Eye of death or the Master destroyer. Now, I don't wish anybody to get harm but I also like to make profit on these positions. What can I tell you? It's a tough business.

An AAPL a day

I'm currently loaded with some solar (LDK STP) and some oil stocks.

Then there's AAPL which I believe is trying to make me look like an insane person shouting 'any day now' every time I see the chart and the fucker do not even budge a little. I tell you, it has a mind of its own. I truly believe that this stock is trying to give me all I can get so that I lose my mind and run to the store and buy ipods and stuffs.

But enough of that. I would like to update you about Focker, my trading robot which I started to rebuild in a newer much better technology. It's half way done and I started running it to see what it has. But this newer version is more robust and much more profitable. It even has a new quantitative modeling engine that does not skip a beat in picking top stocks. Here's a sample of the stocks that it cranked out last Monday.

Most of these stocks move over 10% and almost no risk.

Focker is almost everything I am and every thing that I wish I can be as a trader.

I kid you not, the day of the clone wars in the stock market is near and they will all reduce us to mere spectators.

But don't get any idea about trying to steal this robot, it's so smart the moment it smells trouble, it transforms itself into a juke box look-alike and it even plays 99 red balloons just to confuse you.

What a great summer that was. We finally finished our tour of the jersey shore last week capped by several returns to stay in the majestic Long Branch NJ. Who would have taught that in between Bergen and Cape May areas, there are actually some nice areas to enjoy in NJ?

The best part of the summer for me were the many trips to the shores were I was able to enjoy time with my family and the quite time to gather my thoughts and plan my strategy and make some life changing decisions.

While walking along the shores of Cape May, I started to realize that I have veered away from my regular trading routines into a more careless attitude and half step preparations in during the month of June.

It was in the shores of Atlantic City where I pondered the questions about why it rains every time I watered my lawn or why my NOV and CELG trades keep getting stopped out only to find out that the prices are higher a few days later. You see, during the last week of June, I was basically taking money from the market with my right hand and donating it back with my left hand. It’s nothing destructive but mentally taxing. So I made a soul-searching decision to change my strategy to take more intra-day trades as opportunity arises to take advantage of the volatility and to shift my time frame higher for my position trades instead of daily to weekly. It was also a nice break from demands of active trading. Atlantic City was a perfect place for us to visit. You see, it was the first place that we visited right after we arrived in this country and this trip is our second. In our first visit, we stayed in a very old/cheap motel, rolled into town with an old car and ate in cheap restaurants. This summer, we stayed in opulent suites overlooking the ocean, dined in the best restaurants and stayed in the area with high roller accommodations (a feat that can be accomplished without really throwing away your money). This trip certainly gave us perspective of where we started, where we are and what we want to accomplish.

It was in the shores of Belmar and Point Pleasant where I made life changing decisions such as, I will only have me steaks medium instead of well done or my morning breakfast will be cereal instead of omelet. It is also where I finally realized that after my family and friends, there are two things that are important to me…trading and programming. I have decided to merge both and shored up my knowledge on arbitrage, derivatives and future contracts. I also planned the technology and platforms were Focker will be re-created. It was cleared from that point that although my automated trading robot Focker has been loyal and very profitable; it needs to be re-written in a better technology. C# and .Net it is even with great resistance from Focker.

The pristine shores of Long Branch, void of all the brouhaha of the Caribbean beaches, provided a perfect setting for me to think deeply about the future. With all the advances in technology, singularity and improvements in the health sciences, I made the conscious decision to exclude the time I have spent studying the market like a hermit. So from now on, I will be 10 years younger. It was also clear a to me a few weeks ago that to get back to my big winning ways, I have to get back to my strength which is to picking up stocks that moves fast and big and I just did that with AAPL, AMZN, SYNA, FSYS, CNQR, MA and several puts on the ags sector.

I am certainly waiting again for a good sunny weather to get back to the shore before fall kicks in. Hopefully, the waves will whisper why I missed that in-your-face opportunity to cash in on the financial sector debacle. But deep down I already know the answer. I will trade only the opportunities that my eyes sees and let the other traders take care of the rest that slips pass by me.

I usually write about my trades and my positions but if you have been a reader of this blog and resident of wallstreak, you would have guessed already that I'm holding some Oil stocks, Ag stocks, CSIQ yadayada.

Quite frankly, I'm tired of writing about my trades now. So today, I will write about a topic that has been closed to my heart. I'm talking about simple living. A topic that I have mentioned in my post earlier this year.

My journey towards learning everything about simple living led me to discover about a new concept to me called life style designs, frugal living and stress-free living. Who knew that such concepts exists these days.

I will not teach you about how to live your life. I will simply state my observations and to point out the lessons I have learned as it applies to my family and to myself as a person and as a trader.

For me, simple living is not about completely overhauling your life but it is about refocusing your life towards areas that are most important...family, self fulfilment and health. But don't forget about building wealth which should be a natural extension of simple living. I have visited a few personal finance blog sites in the last few months. These blog sites can be grouped as follows

Debt-free living which I totally agree with.
Wealth-building which is as it should be for every one.
Frugality which I also agree. Live within your means.
Extreme savers which borders living like a caveman. Who know people still try to live within $25K / year?

And just like any other blog site, there are also offers of how to cut down your expenses and other excess such as

Buying a rundown car instead of buying a new car to save from car payments. I would rather be comfortable siting in a traffic inside my brand new Benz or BMW planning my next big trader rather than in a old second hand car trying to think on how I can cut down $10 in my next grocery budget.
Spend most of the time looking for ways to save. I would rather spend more time looking for ways to earn more and just try to live within a reasonable budget.
Buy clothes from thrift shops or get hand me downs. I don't know about you, but I grew up wearing hand me downs courtesy of being a financially challenged parents. If you think your kids are having fun wearing those clothes, you are delusional.
Having money does not make you happy. So is being poor. I would rather be happy and wealthy.

"What's up with Pinoytrader talking shit and stuff?", you might say but do know this, how you look at things should dictate your trading methodology and philosophy.

You see, if you are an extreme saver type, as a trader, it will be very difficult for you to watch your gains disappear during price retracement if you are going to hold the position for a bigger payday. Savers look at things around them as say a $50K/year world and anything they can get out of the $50K is gold to them. To put this in a trader's perspective, if your positions immediately gave you a $1000 gain, any retracement from that $1000 high point mark is a loss that could have been a savings. It might be better for saver to lock several small gains and not let retracement eat his/her gain.

As for me, I'm not a saver type but rather an earner type. I actually think that taking small gains is a waste of my time and effort because I am always looking for the big payday. My temperament allows me to sit through retracement because I don't look at the small gain as a money that I could have had but rather as a business expense (risk) that I can use for the home-run gain. Just like the example above, I will not look at the retracement from that $1000 high point as a loss but rather a launching pad for the next $3000 gain. Another example of this attitude is when I try to diversify to dilute the portfolio risk into several positions. Seeing small gains from several positions makes me impatient and thereby making me consolidate my position and focus my resources to make bigger gains.

I can say that a lot given the latest chop fest in the market but I have to say, picking these commodities (oil, ag, solar, metals) at support areas is a gold mine. Don't forget about the shippers (DRYS EXM) and tech (AAPL RIMM SOHU) too.

I also picked up V and MA last Tuesday and added to these positions yesterday.

I'm trying to cast a net and will just refocus my positions as the move goes on. I'm usually not comfortable holding more than 10 positions but with these stocks, you just don't know which one will move big.

Bottom fishing time again

Oh the vanity of it. I bottom fished AAPL and SOL again. You can also add NOV to that list.

I sold PBR and MTL at the open and bought IOC from a near perfect set-up.

I am working of the following market themes

Buy oil drillers in every dip to 20 or 50 ema
Buy tech titans when it starts to show some accumulation
Solar is here to stay. It's just a matter of time before Uncle Sam starts plowing serious money into this sector
If everything else fails, buy AAPL

Now, of to make some more money even if I'm already up 238% for this year.

Out of some oil stocks

As I have mention in wallstreak yesterday, I closed my three positions in the oil sector just before the bloodbath started. These were HES SU and RIG .

I did try to bottom fish for some pilot positions in AAPL VMW RIMM but were all stop at about 2 point loss on each of the positions. What can I say, the vanity of catching the bottom plagues us all.

I'm getting out of my long positions

I just sold most of my positions in pre-market essentially wiping my gains from the position trades and gave back a few on the others. And still trying to get out of what's left. Just trying to get out of the way of the freight train and decide what to do next.

I have some PUT option contracts for LEH GS MER ...I don't have a lot, just 30 put contracts for each which I bought last Friday. BSC would have been a sweet put option trade but the premium was just very high last Friday. If only I knew that they are $2 company now, I would have made a killing (figuratively speaking).

It's been a very difficult market to trade specially for traders like me how does not have a good educational background about macro-economics.

With limited formal economics studies, I tend to plan my strategy based on my market observations after I looked at the charts and of course with some added common sense. So in the last few days, my strategy has been to focus on the inverse ETF to position my self for further downside and by using an ETF, I limit my exposure to extreme movements in the individual stocks.

My strategy is based on the following themes/observations

There could be extreme pressure for institutional funds to liquidate assets so equity positions can be sold in bundles anytime which could pressure the strong stocks
Quick money has been made shorting financials but a long bottoming process could be in place and a final push down could happen to flush out all other weak hands before the value investors starts looking at what's left of the sector.
More downside for the REIT holders
China stocks could see more downside as China is being looked at as a coupled-economy to US
Mid and small caps are vulnerable to liquidation
Metals/Gas/Oil are still hot as booming economic expansion in other areas keeps demand high
Agricultural and Chemical manufacturing (fert) are still strong

Based on the above observations, my positions are FXP SKF TWM SDS SRS inverse ETFs which I purchased this Wednesday this week (Holy Grail set-up 60-min chart) and long on certain oil/fert stocks.

Update 9:00am : I will be selling into the spike up for the inverse ETFs

Here are some of my observations after I looked at 1033 charts last night.

With all the negative news about the financials, you would have assumed that the stocks in these sector will take no time to race to ZERO but the charts are showing some dribble of support and not a lot of bear action. Fear of a possible Value and Consolidation play is keeping these short sellers from pressing these stocks down to the ground.
Defense stocks are showing a tale of 2 tapes. Some stocks are showing good accumulation pattern while some are just hanging in the air waiting for that final plunge.
DNA, a stock we have discussed in wallsteak a few days ago after it gapped finally showed it's true color which is green.
Chemical manufacturing/agricultural stocks are showing strength here.
Coal stocks are still hot.
There are a few notable Tech stocks but most are just showing no signs of life.
Silver is the new Gold and Gold is the new Diamond.
Because i'm a betting man, my money will be focused on steel and oil stocks.

I have not posted in a while because I needed to restructure how I lived my life and to refocus and the more important matters. By doing this, I was able to refocus towards a more simple living lifestyle which family has started to do.

After a slow progress towards simplifying our life, we also started to go over the other 'stuff' that we have marked as not-necessary but by doing it will make life rewarding. I have decided to continue writing in my blog as a what to organize/record my thoughts and observations about the market. In doing so, I will make a few changes in the way I have been posting. I will not post my position anymore but rather, a I will construct my post towards a more general and educational theme.

As I have mentioned in wallstreak last February 1, I started buying into long positions the week before that it was time to buy buy buy with both hands. However, I was caught in the ugly reversal of GS and BSC but just a small amount. I should also mention that the rest of my positions that survived the semi-bear scare moved on to some wild gains in the last 2 weeks.

On another note, I noticed that Ragin is now in the house of fly banking coin. He sure is on fire these days making all the wild market calls and actually making piles of money...

You should also visit Stewie before he starts charging for those stock picks.

For today, I will focus mainly on my existing positions and might try to pick up some retailers. When the goverment effectively give money almost for free...all you need to see is your neighbor coming home with more shopping bags.

I was down with a stomach virus yesterday so I stayed home and was able to fire some intra-day trades and occasionally hangout in wallstreak.

As I have mentioned in wallstreak below, I bought new positions in financial sector in MER MS. I also picked some AAPL again at $133 and added to my existing MA position at $177 and $180.

I also closed my solar power positions in JASO and WFR ahead of earnings.
And for my intra-day trades, I mostly took the short side with fix 400 shares/position for faster and easier trade management. Trades taken

As I have mentioned in Wallstreak during our pre-market open chat, I closed all my positions at the open. Granted that the fills are not at the favorable price levels, I still preserved a good chunk of the gains before the market rout upwards or downwards if your inverse-ETF.

I did manage to pick up a few pilot long positions in MA VMA WFR JASO and AAPL.

Closed my position at $172 for a 3 point loss and reversed my position to short at $171+. Reasoning for this is that if macworld cannot inject some life to the price action nothing will.

Open positions as for Lead-Forward Capital Investment as of 11:00am. If I get some buying power later today, I might look at CXO if price stays above $22.

Note: I closed HOKU position last Monday at average price of $13.40. I also picked up 300 shares of MA yesterday for a long trade at $205 but the position was stopped before the end of the day at $202+. AMZN short was at $90 and DRYS short was at $73.

It's a stock pickers market at this moment and at least a tight allocation strategy is also in order.

For my main trading account (not the Leap-forward Capital), I'm mostly positioned in the agri/chemical stocks as well as gold and mining stocks.

As I have mentioned in wallstreak yesterday, I started to scale out of these positions as it felt like these sectors were overcrowded already and the report this morning could annihilate these 'safe' haven stocks.

Going forward for the next few weeks, I believe that my best strategy is to hold my remaining positions in agri and gold stocks as well as the inverse etfs (SRS SKF) in my porfolio. I will also keep what's left of my oil stocks after the carnage today.

Basically, hold the sectors that could do well during recession and short (buy inverse etf) of sectors that can get bloody during economic slowdown.

2007. The year that was

2007 leaves a bitter sweet memory for me. It was the worst of times and at the same time, the best of times.

The worst of 2007. This year marked the closure and the ending of a dream...Ascend investment club. The club started with a lot of promise 2 years ago with the dream of building a small stake into a 7 digit account but like all dreams and wishes, some will go unfulfilled and die in our memory. It was a grandeur idea with some friends to ride the gravy train (that was my trading) and jump off before it stops. However, right after it started, I went deep down to a deep freeze called drawdown…that trader's illness that happen in all of us. A few losses turned into more losses as we/I tried to force results and discontentment led to withdrawals and loss friends. By the time it’s over, I just decided to cut my losses, cough up the club's losses and return the original amount to each of members. I learned my lesson, chalked up a few more rules to live by, reduced the number of my friends, and started over. And I'm sure they'll be madder as hell when they learn that they just jumped out right at the bottom...just when my returns started to accelerate.

The best of 2007. There are many great things that I am thankful for.

My loving family. Friends who have always been around through good and bad times.

A great turn-around in my trading result as I have dug my self out of the previous year’s sub-par return and finished this year with incredible result. And if my memory and my trading history serve me right, I have just started another great run that could last for years. Since I have started trading I have to 2 great runs and 2 lean runs. Lean run is a year/years of sub-par returns (under 100%) in my main trading account which I sometimes call drawdown. Great run is year/ years when I have multiple 100% return for each of these years.

This blog and the trader friends from all over. For some reason that I completely missed, this blog picked up readers this year. Emails of thank you, questions about trading and a few f..k you email piled up my email-box . I also had the privilege of virtually meeting many traders/ friends from all over the world. And who would not be thankful for Wallstreak?

Leap-forward Capital Investment. After my Ascend investment debacle, I decided to open another LLC account with myself as the major partner and 2 other friends who did not want to withdraw the money from the club as minor partners. This was very important for me because I have always believed and said that I can start and rebuild my portfolio with a small amount. So on September 24, I have opened the account with $17,500 of starting capital. The account balance stands at $46,325.70 at the close of the market today. As I look forward to my future, I'm closely moving to the area of professional money management (ala hedge fund) and this will be my benchmark and my training ground.

Focker. The traderbot that is half done. Even thought my coding has not been completed for this traderbot, the results that it has posted in the last 10 weeks that I have it running are impressive. It returned a very impressive $3,700/week for $25K of capital ($50K of buying power). And with this, a new vision is dancing in my mind….multiple clones of Focker running in every capital market printing money for me while I’m in my own island happily retired.

Well, this is the time of year when I usually just take it easy. Park my money into some strong trending stocks, drink and toast my self for being able to find these stocks and watch as my gains pile up.

Instead for this year, that tradition was broken up. I'm in for a tough fight, many small paper cuts (aka stop losses) and I've been bitch slapped by this market so much that I cannot tell if it's up or down. I've been keeping my position size small and stops wider. How else can you fight a freight train that goes forward and back so many times?

I've let go of all my long positions last week and picked up some inverse etf SKF SRS FXP EEV and PUT option contracts on the shippers (DRYS DSX).

I'm not looking to initiate heavy long positions but if opportunity arises, I might take on some daily swing trades ( 5-10 days ).
